SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2009 - Cancelled
After serious discussion and much consideration, we regret to inform you that the Board of Directors has decided to cancel our 2009 Buddy Walk due to the economic downturn and the news of so many people in our area finding themselves out of work.

With the outlook apparently beginning to improve slightly, we fully anticipate bringing the Buddy Walk back in the fall of 2010 and we look forward to walking in support of our loved ones with Down syndrome at that time.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We will be needing many committee chairpersons to make the 2008 event a success. Please watch for information regarding the upcoming Buddy Walk Meetings. Please consider volunteering even if only you have a limited amount of time. Every little bit helps. Everyone can start now by asking for Corporate Sponsorships. We have letters available to be sent to your employers, local businesses, banks, hospitals, doctors offices, and service groups that support community organizations. If you feel you will be more successful by presenting the letter personally, just call the office and we will provide a letter to be hand-delivered. Don't be afraid to ask! Many have at least a small budget for community support and involvement.

Sponsorship Levels Available

The Buddy Walk has three primary goals:
  • To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome;
  • To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs; and
  • To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice.

The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, come and join the Buddy Walk!
